5 out of 5 stars A critique in novel-form of modern churches. May God help us.   May 15, 2007

This is without a doubt Francine Rivers' best. Vivid and relevant, it presents a great story of godly woman, whose husband is called to pastor a dying (when it comes to numbers) church. Living in the shadow of a successful television evangelist, the husband grows the church fast via modern principles - and (without saying too much, which would destroy the experience) the result is a successful congregation heading for hell. Millions especially in Western countries would do good in reading this. May God help us.

I just finished reading this book. It was an excellent read and a timely reminder of the temptations that could so easily be the downfall of the servant of God in ministry.

5 out of 5 stars She's done it again   September 22, 2004

Francine Rivers has become one of my favourite authors over the last few years. I will buy her books without ever hearing of them before. This book is pure Christian fiction addressing real issues today with such clarity. She has an amasing gift to put you in the book, you can't help comparing yourself to the characters and situations.

'And the Shofar Blew' is one of those books you can't put down and that you read over again shortly after finishing. Not only is the story intricate and evolving (the story is told over about 12 years) but it's also written with such pictures and emotion that to read it again is pure reading pleasure.

You won't be dissapointed with this book. I keep lending it out to people and it really encourages others and makes a difference in their lives. This truly is a life-changing book if you're interested in 'church' in terms of relationships, responsibility, the building, the generations who attend etc... it has something for all.

An excellent portrayal of how we can get wrap up in doing things in the name of the Lord and lose God in our plans altogether. This book drove me onto my knees , as I recognised some of the qualities of Paul, becoming people pleasers rather than a God pleaser.

No matter how far we go away, God is always ready to recieve us back.

Excellent.
