All children's books could some day be like this.... February 24, 2005 Original book "Toots and the Upside Down House" was quite an achievement, in terms of it's upside down imagery, and merited attention for owing more than a passing debt to "The Wizard of Oz", but "Toots Underground" surpasses that. It continues in fine form with the Expressionistic upside-down world and it's compelling psychical properties but reveals more about the world that we glimpsed in the first story. It is nice to imagine the RAF-style subterranean hangar that Olive now works in.
The story is less about Toots helping herself (her relationship with her dad) and more about helping her garden-dwelling fairy friend Olive. I don't have children but enjoyed this book myself. So I certainly hope parents would enjoy reading this to their children, and the children would enjoy being read it. Good stuff all round!
